Anslow is a small village to the north-west of Burton upon Trent, and one which I have walked to many times in the last few years. It’s a rural village, with many old houses, including barn conversions, and some modern houses.
The centre of the village has a primary school (The Mosley Academy), a pub (the Bell Inn) and it did have a very nice wooden signpost, which I discovered recently is not there any more. The village was formed in 1861 and was originally a hamlet. The Mosley family, a wealthy land-owning family from nearby Rolleston-on-Dove paid for a church to be built, and a school. The school was replaced in 1909 by a new one, also built by the Mosley family.

There are no shops in Anslow, apart from a farm shop. The main industry was traditionally agriculture, though many people in the village also worked in Burton on Trent’s brewing industry during its heyday in the 19th and 20th centuries.
It’s quite a long walk from Burton on Trent; it usually takes me about an hour and a half to get there. It is well served by local public transport, the number 10 stops nearby at the Acorn Inn, and the 403 bus serves the village.

There is a village hall, built in the 1950s, which is still used regularly to this day. Also in Anslow is an industrial estate, with many small businesses resident there. Outside the entrance to the industrial estate is a sign for an egg supplier which says that they are “open 24/7”. So if you need eggs in an emergency at 2 o’clock in the morning, Anslow is the place to go.

Close to Anslow is the Outwoods Woodland, which I visited back in August 2022. There are many public footpaths available in the fields surrounding the village, so it’s a good place to go for a country walk.
That’s all for this post about Anslow. If you would want to follow this blog, then you can on all the good social media sites. The links are here. Thanks for reading.
